My week days

Sorry to not been posting very regularly. Time has been in short supply lately. My week schedule is currently quite booked up. Monday is a day for my own studio work. From 6:30 to 10:10 PM however I take some evening classes to be a certified electrician. I do this just to get more grip on my providers and to be able to step in when someone messes up or walks out on me in the middle of a job. I get home around 11PM on Monday. Tuesday I catch the Eurostar from Brussel at 6AM to be at Metropolitan works at 9AM where I supervise the workshops. That same evening I teach Workshop proficiency from 6 to 9PM and get to my hotel around 10 depending how long my students keep me after class. Wednesday I start at 9AM at metropolitan works until 6PM and rush off to the Eurostar to get to Brussels around 11PM. Thursday and Friday are for my own studio although Thursday evening I follow evening classes again to be a certified plumber, for the same reasons as my classes on Monday evening. And again I get home around 11 PM. Then I have one more class on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 12:00. It’s a short 4 month course in wall construction (the others are 3 years :( .) Bottom line not a lot of time is left for my blog. If some spare moments pop up my wife and kid (who I hardly see) demand most of it and if I can I try to stay on top of ID-Sphere which has reached a monthly visitors level of over 6000. I hope the efforts pay off one day.

Perspective magazine article

I was referenced in the summer issue of the trade magazine Perspective of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA, www.iida.org). Some months ago they interviewed me (see post: Perpsective magazine) about health and safety within interior design in reference to the article I wrote on the subject for ID-Sphere: Health and safety in interior design

For people who like to read up on the article it is called The Power to Protect and was published in the summer issue of Perspective magazine.
Below I post the full content of the correspondence regarding the interview since only snapshots have been taken for the article.
I hope you enjoy.

Selective Laser Sintering a Rapid manufacturing process

Below you will find a 7 min tutorial I made on SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) a rapid prototyping process which builds models up in layers by lasering only the parts that need to be solidified. It is an affordable process to model up prototypes or forms which would be difficult to produce with standard manufacturing processes. SLS builds up your model in Nylon which results in a fairly strong object which leaves many possibilities for post processing and finishes such as lacquering or metal plating. The dimensions for an SLS build depends on the capacity of the machine that will build it so make sure you check these dimensions first.

The movie is 27MB so please be patient for it to load.

For more technical information on the process you can try these following links:

She-longue at the exhibition

Slowly I will be posting processes and images of the work I did for the exhibition at the end of last month. Below you already find a photo of the She-longue at the exhibition, newly upholstered in a combination of velvet and rabbit hide which was cut in horizontal patterns. I don’t have professional photographs yet. With my recent move I didn’t have the time yet. Once I am settled I will set things in motions to get better imagery.
